Case Study: Hilton Garden Inn – Brick to EIFS Stencil Project
Introduction
EIFS is short for Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems. This system comes with many positives in terms of energy efficiency, design options, and cost effectiveness. The property where this project took place is in Mason, OH. In November of 2023, we were contacted about a large section of brick wall that had begun to crack, bow outward, and separate from the main structure. This problem posed an immense risk to the roof and more importantly, the guests and faculty of the hotel.
Challenge
The original installation of the brick ties was done with the improper fasteners, causing the weight of the brick veneers to shift. The client was not able to afford an entire new brick wall to be built and was also concerned about the weight of putting the same heavy material back. We worked with the client and developed an affordable EIFS system with a brick stencil to match the existing wall as close as possible. This was a significant lower cost and eliminated the risk of any weight concerns on that elevation.
Our Solution
With the combined effort of the team, we were able to color match and create a brick-like stencil pattern. When we were contacted, the wall was shifting at the bottom showing it could pull away at any time. We mobilized within two weeks after approval and completed the project within the promised timeframe.
Results
PPS was able to quickly demo and clear out the old wall section, salvaging the structural integrity of the elevation. We were able to provide our client with a saf, speedy, and affordable alternative in the face of a large problem.
