Case Study: Concrete Replacement – 1300 Sqft. of Sidewalk
Introduction
The community where this project took place is in Hilliard OH, fifteen minutes east of downtown Columbus. In April of 2024, PPS undertook a significant project to replace 1300 square feet of deteriorating sidewalk pads. This project was a top priority for the association to refresh and update the property, which would help increase home values.
Challenge
The pads had suffered extensive cracking, spalling, and uneven settling, posing a safety hazard and decreasing the overall aesthetic appeal. The community consisted of tight streets and many parked cars to work around. The first challenge was carefully inspecting, measuring, and marking each location that required a repair. The association wanted to target problem areas with a repair that would match the existing concrete. The second challenge came from scheduling and working around cars that were near our working areas.
Our Solution
We began with removing all the marked pads, carefully cutting around drainpipes and existing pads. We dedicated two crew members to hold plastic sheeting to block dust from clinging to resident’s cars where necessary. Next, we set forms and poured new concrete. Once it began to cure, the finish crew came through each site to trace and match the existing pattern within the community.
Results
PPS dedicated two weeks of labor and project oversight to deliver a high-quality finish which was a great success. The community was extremely satisfied with the project, and they are looking to continue the replacement of pads next year.
